WINKBURN SECTION 37 APPLICATION
31 January 2025
The Electricity (Applications for Consent) Regulations 1990: Regulation 5 – Publication of Notice of Application for Consent under Section 37 of the Electricity Act 1989.
Proposal: Modifications to existing tower (to include installation of chair structure) located in Winkburn, Newark and Sherwood, Nottinghamshire (nearest postcode: NG22 8PQ), National Grid Reference: SK 72164 58899.
Background: National Grid Electricity Network (NGED) has been requested by a customer to install a new ‘chair structure’ to connect via down-leads to 1 no. existing tower (‘48AX25’). This new chair structure is required to support a recently consented solar farm (planning application 20/02501/FULM) and will connect into the electricity cables, substation, and associated infrastructure approved as part of application ref: 22/01782/FULM.
As a statutory undertaker, NGED is obligated under Section 16 of the Electricity Act 1989 to respond to customer requests and implement new infrastructure to ensure a reliable and efficient electricity supply. NGED has received a request under Section 16 of the Electricity Act to modify an existing tower, referred to as ‘48AX25’, located on their 132kV Overhead Line (OHL). The modifications include the installation of a new ‘chair structure’ to the existing tower, which will be connected to the existing OHL by three down-leads. The chair structure will consist of up to six terminal wood poles, each measuring up to 17 meters in height.
Notice is hereby given that on w/c 27/01, NGED made an application under Section 37 of the Electricity Act 1989 for the consent of the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero to modify an existing tower to include 1 no. chair structure and three additional down-leads to connect the structure to the existing OHL. These works are required in connection with the consented planning application for a solar farm.
